Project Description:
Clearing Requirements: Clear trees and brush from the entire one-acre area using equipment suited for the job. Fell, level and mulch when possible.

Backfilling if necessary: Fill all depressions created so the ground surface is a consistent, level grade suitable for routine maintenance and safe operation of mowing equipment.

Debris Handling: Collect, and dispose of all green waste, stumps, logs, and debris from the site. Move aside all standing trees, brush, shrubs, tall grasses, and undergrowth. Cut materials can be left on site in area designated by the site manager during the walk through. All disposal or burning must comply with local, state, and federal regulations, including Hawai’i County open burning rules.

Special Instructions
Land clearing - 1 Acre in Maku’u, Hawai’i Island Project Location: 15-2155 Kea’au-Pahoa Rd., Pahoa, Hawai’i 96778 Project Purpose: Prepare site for agroforestry crop production. See attached SOW with site map.

Description of Work: The Contractor shall furnish all labor, materials, equipment, supervision, and incidentals necessary to complete the clearing of the designated one-acre site as shown in the plans provided in the Request for Bids.

Clearing Requirements:
Clear cut the entire one-acre area using necessary equipment suited for the job and terrain.

Remove all vegetation except for Ohia lehua and other trees explicitly marked to remain by the Site Manager during the site walk-through. Fell, remove, and mulch of all standing trees, brush, shrubs, grasses, and undergrowth so the area can be mowed between plantings as needed.

Backfilling:
Fill as needed so the ground surface is a consistent, level grade suitable for routine maintenance and safe operation of mowing equipment.

Debris Handling:
Collect, remove, and dispose of all green waste, stumps, logs, and debris to a location on site designated by the site manager during walk through.

All disposal or burning must comply with local, state, and federal regulations, including Hawai’i County open burning rules.

Contractor must stay strictly within the marked project boundary established during the on-site walk-through.

Contractor Expertise Requirements:
The Contractor must demonstrate the following qualifications:
Experience clearing land in the Maku’u area of Puna, including familiarity with its soils, vegetation, and terrain.
Experience working with Native Hawaiian community members and DHHL leaseholders in Maku’u or similar communities.
Understanding of culturally sensitive areas and respectful of land-use practices.

Successful bidders will provide a quote for work that will be good for at least 90 days from close of RFB. Project must be completed by the end of April 2026.
